In the last few years fashion has evolved in the corporate setting from strictly business professional to business casual. When I first started working in an office environment the proper attire was dark colored pant or skirt suits with black pumps. Everything else was considered too casual which didn’t make a good impression. Now, fashion in the work place has changed. Many corporations have adjusted their dress codes from professional to casual. This doesn’t mean you could show up to work in shorts and flip flops but the stress of having to wear a suit everyday has eased drastically. We can now add a variety of pieces to our wardrobe that let us make good business impressions and stay fashionable all at the same time.
Although, I do believe for interviews we should stick to dressing business professional because as they say, “you will never get a second chance to make a first impression.” Make sure they remember you because you are their best candidate and not because you weren’t dressed properly for the interview. I will be sharing a post with you in the near future about the do’s and don’ts of interview attire but for now we can get back to work fashion.
Whenever I shop for work clothes I like to purchase classic pieces that are timeless; dress slacks, pencils skirts, blazers and simple solid colored dresses. But I also like to add fashionable pieces to my wardrobe, just like these ankle plaids. They embody the classic black dress slack but they add the fashion flare I like to rock once in a while. To be honest they are one of my favorite pieces of clothing. On weekends I like to wear them with a simple tee and strappy heels to keep my look casual and comfortable.
But since we are talking about work wear, here’s how I like to dress my plaids for the office. The options are endless but these are just some of my favorites. This week for example, I had a few meetings with some executives and decided to dress fashionably business professional. I took my plaids, added a black button down top with a black blazer and closed rounded toe pumps. I wore the blazer during my meetings and once they were over I removed the blazer to keep the look casual.

Sometimes adding color changes the look completely. On another work day I dressed the plaids with a salmon colored button down and pointy black pumps. I added a gold necklace to fancy up the look a little bit. It’s professional, casual and comfortable.
